Get ready for World Mental Health Day 2023
THIS CONTENT HAS NOW EXPIRED
Every year, World Mental Health Day falls on 10 October and this year’s theme is mental health is a universal human right.
At least one in four Hertfordshire residents will experience mental health problems at some point in their lives – often not diagnosed or requiring specialist services. The Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Team within Public Health Hertfordshire facilitate and support good public mental health amongst adults across Hertfordshire through a variety of preventative projects including digital applications, training, activities, and partnership working. We aim to promote better mental health well-being and support those who may have common mental health issues. Please see below some of the ongoing work to support residents across Hertfordshire:
Togetherall
In May 2022, we commissioned Togetherall, a 24/7 anonymous peer to peer online platform available to residents aged 16+. Togetherall has a community full of people from all walks of life, coming together to get (or give) the mental health support they need. Someone, somewhere will understand how you’re feeling and they’d love to hear your story. You can join the Togetherall community today for FREE at https://togetherall.com/en-gb/join/hertfordshire/
Resource Booklet
Hertfordshire County Council Public Health Service, working with Districts and Boroughs, NHS, Adult Care, Children’s and voluntary agencies have developed a mental health resource booklet providing information about services available in the community, making it easier for residents to access the support they need.
Please email PublicMentalHealth@hertfordshire.gov.uk for additional resources in the form of pens, business cards and stress balls.
Promoting Mental Wellbeing Through Physical Activity Programme
Building on the successes of the first year of the programme, the team are currently funding 12 local projects to promote mental wellbeing through physical activity. There are a wide range of activities, ranging from football and yoga to gardening and boxing. For more information on projects taking place throughout the County, please click here.
Healthy Body Healthy Mind Hertfordshire
Earlier in the year, Public Health Hertfordshire teamed up with Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to launch Healthy Body Healthy Mind Hertfordshire, a campaign to highlight the positive effect that being active can have on our physical and mental health and wellbeing. The campaign challenges people to take part in a series of 12 ‘high intensity’ (HIIT) exercises during the course of 4 weeks. Alongside this, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue staff share their personal and professional experiences of maintaining physical and mental wellbeing, and the strategies they use to help them. Workouts are now available on YouTube with the intensity of the workouts increasing as the weeks go on. To learn more, please visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/healthybodyhealthymind
