CPCS rollout from Herts GP practices – March 2022 Update

As of November 2020, the Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) expanded across England, to included referrals from general practices as well as from NHS 111. The rollout across Primary Care Networks (PCNs) of the GP referral pathway has been varied.

The CPCS aims to educate the general public and patients of alternate sources when seeking medical help, so all does not fall on to GPs. Pharmacists have been fully trained to help direct any medical enquiries accordingly. The outcomes of this are as follows:

  • Pharmacist offers advice only
  • Pharmacist offers advice and sale of an over-the-counter product
  • Pharmacist offers advice and a referral to another medical professional i.e., GP practice/NHS 111
  • Pharmacist offers advice and signposts to another source of help i.e., charity

In March 2022, the majority of pharmacies within the East and North Herts CCG and Herts Valley CCG, went live. CPH worked closely with the local stakeholders to assist in the rollout, as efficiently as possible.
