A guide for Pharmacists

Herts Urgent Care has developed a guide for pharmacists in consultation with CPH to make pharmacists aware of the clinical support available to you as part of the Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) service for Hertfordshire.

Pharmacies are recommended to print and display a copy in your dispensary for your teams to be aware of the services available in the Clinical Advisory Service (CAS) and the helpline available for healthcare professionals to use. Please note the helpline is not available for the general public so please do NOT publicise this to patients in the pharmacy.

CPH has emailed  a copy to your email separately. If you would like a copy please contact the CPH office on info@cpherts.org.uk.

Service Feedback

NHS111 welcome feedback from GPs, pharmacists and other healthcare staff to help NHS111 to learn and continually improve the NHS111 and Out of Hours GP services in Hertfordshire.  Please complete and return the feedback form.

Service Information

NHS111 is a dedicated telephone number for the public to call when they need medical help but it is not a 999 emergency.  It is a fast and easy way to get the right help – wherever you are and whatever the time.

When you call NHS111 you will get through to a team of highly trained advisers, who are supported by experienced nurses. They will assess your needs, give advice and direct you to the local service that can help you best. That could be a late night opening pharmacist, emergency dentist, community nurse, an out of hours GP, Minor Injuries Unit, an Urgent Care Centre or A&E.

You should use the NHS111 service if:

  • You need medical help but it’s not a 999 emergency
  • You don’t know who to call for medical help or you don’t have a GP to call
  • You require health information or reassurance about what to do next.

For less urgent health needs, you should still contact your GP or local pharmacist in the usual way. If a health professional has given you a specific telephone number to call when you are concerned about your condition, please continue to use that number.
