Supporting Selfcare

Do Something Different – Do Something Different is an online programme hertsdirect.org/dosomething designed to offer people an alternative way of making positive changes in terms of their health, stress and happiness. Attached to this email are examples of posters and the leaflet available to promote this opportunity. You can download and print these for use in your pharmacy or alternatively contact Lisa Olins (lisa.olins@hertfordshire.gov.uk) or Deborah Smith (deborah.smith@hertfordshire.gov.uk) and they will arrange for some to be posted out.

  1. Hertfordshire Health Walks – Hertfordshire Health Walks (hertfordshirehealthwalks.org) is a countywide service set up to provide free, led walks to help everyone get outdoors, get more active and reap the benefits in terms of health outcomes, loneliness etc. The website has all the information your clients will need but the resource page http://www.hertslink.org/cms/healthwalks/resources/ contains leaflets showing where the walks are in your district or neighbouring district, as well as short PowerPoint presentations which may be used if you have the facilities in your pharmacy. You can download and print these for use in your pharmacy or alternatively contact Lisa Olins  (lisa.olins@hertfordshire.gov.uk) or Matthew Green (matthew.green@hertfordshire.gov.uk) and they will arrange for some to be posted out.
  2. Self-Management Tools – A list of self-management tools and apps has been put together for your use when signposting clients http://www.hertsdirect.org/services/healthsoc/healthherts/prof/selfmanagement/ It is at an early stage so, as well as using this as a resource, please email any other useful self-management sites or apps that you are aware of to Lisa Olins so that they can be added to the list. If you send anything in an indication of why you find it particularly useful would be great.

In addition, the Self Care Forum website http://www.selfcareforum.org/  hosts, as downloadable documents, a series of Fact Sheets for the public, which support self care.  Originally designed as hand outs for GPs to use to support the end of consultations that do not result in a prescription, the Fact Sheets can be used by all health professionals (to support consistent messaging about self care and over the counter medicines).
