Flu – Letter from The Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, NHS England

November 19, 2018

Influenza immunisation remains the most effective method to help protect against influenza infection. By being immunised, pharmacists and pharmacy team members in patient facing roles can help protect not only themselves from illness during the busy winter months, but also reduce the risk of transmission to vulnerable patients, as well as protecting their own families. Recent guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence highlights that increasing vaccination uptake in health and social care staff decreased the number of cases of flu, hospitalisations and deaths. NHS England are urging pharmacies to support the programme by encouraging your members to have the flu vaccination as soon as possible. If you have any questions about the programme please e-mail immunisation@phe.gov.uk.
