Annual flu letter published for 2019/20

March 28, 2019

The Department of Health and Social Care, Public Health England and NHS England have jointly published a letter to provide further information on the national flu immunisation programme 2019/20.
The groups included in the eligibility criteria for 2019/20 will remain the same as in 2018/19. Additionally, NHS England will continue to support vaccination of social care and hospice workers. Please note, individuals under the age of 18 cannot be vaccinated under the Community Pharmacy Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Advanced Service.
The letter also outlines the vaccines licensed to be used for the 2019/20 programme, as recommended by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation and agreed by NHS England. This was previously highlighted by PSNC in November 2018.
The Directions, service specification and Patient Group Direction for the Community Pharmacy Flu Vaccination Service 2019/20 will be published in due course; PSNC will highlight this to contractors through normal communication channels once published.
