The Countryside Management Service, part of Hertfordshire County Council, coordinates a countywide programme of Health Walks. These are free, short and regular walks, which provide an opportunity for people to get outdoors, get more active and reap the many health benefits.  Walking can help reduce the risk of lots of conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis and bowel cancer as well as being a good way to maintain general well being.  The Health Walks are led by volunteers and are graded to suit all abilities. There are First Steps walks, which are 20-30 minutes long on flat, even ground, up to Grade 4 walks which are typically 90 minutes in duration and faster paced. The walks take place regularly across the whole of Hertfordshire and are supported by Hertfordshire Public Health team and recommended by many health and social care professionals.

Visit www.hertfordshirehealthwalks.org to find the current Health Walk programme for your area (grouped by Borough/District) or call 01992 588433 for more information.
