Post Dated Prescriptions Or Repeat Dispensing For EPS?
Currently post-dated prescriptions are held within the clinical prescribing system until the date on the prescription when it will transfer to the Spine and become available for download at the patients nominated dispenser only on the date of the prescription. As the systems come through with their next release, the post-dated prescriptions will be held on Spine rather than within the clinical system, but not be visible to the dispensing site. This is to aid with cancellation should the prescriber decide the patient does not require the prescription.
Repeat dispensing prescriptions are available in advance of the interval date, and each dispensing system has functionality to be able to retrieve subsequent issues manually as well as automatic download.
The decision whether to issue an electronic repeat dispensing prescription or an electronic post-dated prescription is the responsibility of the prescriber based on clinical assessment and need of the patient.
