Accessible Information Standard
On 24th June 2015, NHS England issued an information standard aimed at making health and social care information accessible of which contractors must comply with before it is fully implemented on 31 July 2016.
In December last year, PSNC actively encouraged LPCs to apply for an Accessible Information Standard implementation grant of up to £15,000 from NHS England – Hertfordshire LPC was one of the successful applicants and spearheaded with Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) the development of a new e-learning programme.
CPPE launched a new e-learning programme, Accessible Information Standard – making it work in May 2016.
The programme, which was commissioned by Hertfordshire LPC, aims to improve the skills and understanding of pharmacy teams in implementing the Accessible Information Standard. Learners will be able to discuss their responsibilities as a team member with regards to the Standard, identify patients with communication difficulties and devise effective solutions to meet their needs. They will also be able to train other pharmacy members to help them implement the requirements of the Standard.
Community pharmacy teams are encouraged to login to the CPPE website to undertake the learning to record their progress but it can also be accessed on the LPC website.
The Standard applies to all providers of NHS services (including community pharmacies) in England and all providers must fully comply with the Standard no later than 31st July 2016.
