Community Pharmacy Contract
Information and resources to support local commissioning of community pharmacy services can be found in the Services and Commissioning section of the PSNC website.
PSNC, Pharmacy Voice and the British Medical Association have published a joint statement on prescription direction.
The three organisations discussed the topic at a meeting in August.
The joint statement is an outcome of this meeting and is intended to be a helpful reminder to pharmacists and GPs of existing guidance. The statement can be downloaded below.

PSNC Briefing 095/13: Direction of Prescriptions (September 2013)
Direction of prescriptions is the term used, often by pharmacy contractors, to describe the exercise of undue influence by a medical practice over the choice of where a patient takes or sends their prescription to be dispensed. The influence may be intentional, or may be because any positive comment by a GP is likely to be taken by a patient to be an endorsement. This PSNC Briefing includes summaries of the regulations and guidance relevant to this topic, as well as an update on PSNC’s work in the area, and may be of use to contractors and LPCs affected by the issue.
